Carolyn Parrish Mayor

Carolyn Parrish elected as Mississauga's next mayor

Former city councillor and MP wins by over 8,500 votes

Parrish has a long history of public service and is dedicated to leading Mississauga towards affordability

Carolyn Parrish has been elected Mississauga's next mayor, CBC News projects. The former city councillor and federal member of Parliament is leading the byelection by over 8,500 votes with 52% of the ballots counted.

Parrish, who was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1968, has a long history of public service. She was first elected to Mississauga City Council in 1991 and served for 12 years. She was then elected to the House of Commons in 2004 and served as the MP for Mississauga—Erindale until 2011.

In her campaign for mayor, Parrish promised to focus on affordability, transit, and public safety. She said she would work to make Mississauga more affordable for families and businesses, improve public transit, and make the city safer.

Parrish's victory is a significant upset. She was not the frontrunner in the race and had been trailing in the polls. However, she was able to mobilize her supporters and win the election. Her victory is a sign that voters are looking for change in Mississauga.
